In October 2021, I decided to personally renovate our small enclosed balcony. Measuring about 5 square meters and facing south, the entire makeover took about a month and a half and was full of DIY fun.
π βDefining the Style: Nordic Style, White + Greenβ
First, I chose a Nordic-inspired theme with white and green as the main color palette. This combination felt both fresh and comfortable.

𧱠βWall Color Makeoverβ
The original yellowish-brown wall tiles were repainted in an avocado green using water-based tile paint. After four coats, the result was stunning. I initially tried a cyan shade, but after two coats, it didnβt look rightβso I decisively changed course.
πͺ βUpdating the Railing, Window, and Door Framesβ
The original coffee-colored metal doors and windows were repainted in white and a custom-mixed green. Using water-based metal paint, I applied four coats section by section, and the outcome was quite satisfying. I experimented with several shades of green initially, but none looked ideal even in small test patches.

π± βFlooring Installationβ
The floor was laid with light-yellow tiles, over which I directly installed charred preservative wood planks. These were then coated with four layers of white water-based wood paint. To make watering larger plants easier, I left a small section paved with pebbles collected from a riverbankβremember to disinfect the stones before use! This little touch added a rustic charm to the indoor garden.
π‘ βFinal Thoughtsβ
Choosing colors turned out to be wildly frustrating! The color you imagine, the one you buy, and how it looks once paintedβcompletely different! In the end, white is the ultimate go-to!

This balcony renovation was not only a rewarding DIY experience but also deepened my understanding of color matching. If youβre thinking of refreshing your balcony, why not give this color scheme a try? π
